How to Apply Make Up

When you apply make up, following a step-by-step process can help you achieve the look that professionals create. Analyze your face to find your best feature and work towards highlighting this feature using a combination of eye make up, lip color and blush to create a perfect look.

Ever wondered how you can apply make up perfectly to achieve the flawless look that celebrities carry off? Applying make up is easy and just requires a bit of practice till you get it perfect. Here are some tips to guide you.

Step 1
When you apply make up, you have to start with a fresh canvas each time – in this case, your face. Apply a layer of moisturizing foundation that matches your skin tone to give your complexion a smooth appearance. If you have acne scars or pimples then use a concealer that is a couple of shades lighter than your skin and blend it in. Next use a make up brush to dust on some powder that is the same shade as your skin to help set the liquid foundation.

Step 2
The next step is to analyze which of your features you want to bring out. When you apply make up, it always works best if you highlight one feature, otherwise your make up would look overdone. If you are going to highlight your eyes, then start with filling in the gaps in your eyebrows with a black or brown pencil. Next, use a highlighter brush to dust the lighter base color all over the eyelid and then with the applicator apply the darker color on the folds of the eyes. Finish off with eyeliner and then mascara. If you are not highlighting your eyes, then you can lay off the eye color, using just eyeliner and mascara.

Step 3
Next you need to apply make up to your cheeks to give them a glow that looks natural. When you buy blush, you have the option of choosing cream or matte finish. Applying cream blush perfectly requires some skill as it has to be blended perfectly to avoid a streaky look. If you choose a matte finish then apply it with a make up brush starting just under the cheekbone and moving upwards in sweeping strokes towards the temple. Remember to apply blush with an extremely light hand.

Step 4
Next are the luscious lips. Start with a lip liner in a neutral tone and blend it in well. Follow up by filling the color of your choice on your lips using a lip brush. A trick you can use when you want to create natural looking lips while you apply make up, is to use light colors during the day and darker or bolder colors at night. If you want shine, then you can finish with lip gloss.

The rule of thumb when you apply make up is to wear light make up during the day and go bolder at night. Stick to using just eyeliner and a light lipstick during the day and use eye shadow and bolder colors at night. Experiment with different looks using these tips until you find one that brings out the best in you.
